White Oak Pastures Meat Delivery Review | Pasture-Raised Beef, Pork, Chicken

Updated: Jul 16

If you're looking for top quality grass-fed beef that can be delivered right to your doorstep, you're in the right place. Here's my honest review of White Oak Pastures meat products—the pros, cons, etc. This blog post contains affiliate links.

White Oak Pastures is a family farm located in Bluffton, Georgia that raises grass-fed beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and more. They ship their meats all over the USA to people who are seeking the best quality food.

The owner, Will Harris is a true pioneer in the regenerative farming space. The goal with regenerative farming is restoring the cycles of nature that industrial farming has broken. To learn more about this, I'd recommend listening to the Will Harris episode on the Joe Rogan Podcast or reading Will's book, A Book Return To Giving A Damn.

White Oak Pastures and their mission have a special place in my heart. I've been eating their meats for years and actually had the opportunity to visit the farm in 2022 (read more about that experience here). Now for my comprehensive review of their meats—including the pros, cons, and what to expect when ordering.

White Oak Pastures Review

White Oak Pastures has a huge selection of meats, organs, pet snacks, tallow beauty products, and more. They are committed to raising their animals "as nature intended" out on pasture. Not only do they have the highest standards when it comes to farming practices, but their meats taste incredible. I have tried many different grass-fed beef sources and White Oak Pastures remains my top favorite. The rich flavor of their beef is unmatched!

I originally discovered White Oak Pastures shortly after starting the carnivore diet. I was looking for higher quality meats in hopes that it would be supportive of my chronic illness healing journey. It certainly has been! Eating pasture-raised meats instead of conventional meats really made a big difference for me. I appreciate that White Oak embraces the idea of treating "food as medicine".

I've tried just about every cut White Oak has to offer over the past few years and I'm almost never disappointed. It's been so fun to try unique cuts such as beef cheeks, beef feet, chicken skins, or organs and learn how to prepare them properly. Our family absolutely loves their meats and would recommend them to anyone!

How do they package their meats? Are they frozen upon arrival?

White Oak packages their meats in a styrofoam cooler, and keeps them cold with dry ice. The meats are vacuum sealed and then wrapped in paper. In my experience, they typically all arrive frozen solid. When I unpack the meat, I put them in the freezer right away. The meat is still considered good if it arrives cold and partially frozen (this can happen in the hot summer months). I'd recommend checking out their website FAQs to learn more about this.

What are some of your favorite cuts you've ordered?

Of all the cuts I've ordered from White Oak, these are some of my favorites:

  • 80/20 grass-fed ground beef

    • This is more budget friendly and makes excellent burgers (we eat a lot of this)

    • They also have a 90/10 option but the extra fat gives such a nice flavor

  • Chuck Roast

  • Ribeye Steak

  • New York Strip Steak

  • Beef tongue

  • Beef oxtail

  • Beef chuck roast

  • Pasture-raised bacon

Those are just to name a few. You really can't go wrong! Everything I've ordered has been very high quality. I really appreciate that White Oak offers such a unique variety of cuts / organs and encourages a "nose to tail" lifestyle. They don't let anything go to waste!

How does the flavor of grass-fed beef compare to grain-fed beef?

To me, the flavor is much more rich and I prefer it greatly to conventional beef. Some people say that grass-fed beef has more of a "gamey" taste, but I don't find this with White Oak meat. The color of the meat and the fat says a lot to me about the quality. The meat is a deep red color and the fat is golden. That is the way it's supposed to look!

Do you have any tips for cooking White Oak Pastures meats?

Keep in mind that grass-finished beef is in general, leaner than conventional beef. This can make the cooking experience a bit different. My best advice is to not overcook cuts like steak, ground meat, etc. I prefer a medium-rare.

When cooking cuts rich in connective tissue such as beef cheeks, chuck roast, or shank, always cook them low and slow. Be sure to check out the "recipe" section on my blog for inspiration.

Does White Oak Pastures offer any discounts?

Other ways to save: They offer free shipping on orders over a certain value and have a "subscribe and save" option on many of their bundles. I'd also recommend checking out the cuts that are on sale!

Our family eats a lot of ground beef because its one of the most affordable cuts. After applying my affiliate code, it ends up being about $8/lb for ground beef (at the time of writing this article). Personally, I'd rather eat cheaper cuts of higher quality meat than conventional steaks any day. But of course, just eat the best quality you can afford!

Is White Oak Pastures meat aged? Is it considered low histamine?

White Oak does not age their beef, it is flash frozen. This means it's considered to be low histamine and often works well for those that are dealing with certain chronic illnesses. Learn more about that in this blog post.

Does the meat being frozen affect the taste?

In my opinion, not at all. I typically thaw the meat in a bowl of water or in the fridge before cooking. It always tastes fresh and I like that the meat keeps for a long time in the freezer!

How do they handle potential issues with orders?

Of the dozens of packages I've received from White Oak, I had one incident where the package was damaged upon arrival. The delivery driver suggested we send it back and that's what they did. When I reached out to their support team, they handled it immediately and shipped a replacement right away.

Every time I've contacted support, they've been very prompt and helpful. I've actually met several of their team members and they are amazing people!

Are there any "cons" to ordering from White Oak Pastures?

The only "con" I can think of is that the prices of the meats are higher than conventional beef. This is to be expected, as it's very expensive to raise meat regeneratively. For the quality, I believe they are very reasonably priced in comparison to other farms.

Otherwise, I do wish they used coolers that were recyclable instead of the current styrofoam ones. The cardboard box the meat is shipped in can be recycled and they use dry ice instead of ice packs which I appreciate (as it doesn't create as much waste). I still find it well worth it to order their meats and support their farm!

In Summary

White Oak Pastures is the best of the best when it comes to meat quality and taste. If you don't have a good local source for pasture-raised meats, I'd definitely recommend giving their delivery service a try.

I'm grateful everyday for farms like White Oak that are working so hard to create nourishing foods in a world that is quickly forgetting the importance of them.
