Here's my honest review of Redmond Real Salt—an unrefined sea salt that's mined from an ancient seabed in Utah. This is a great option for those that are looking for healthier salt that's unrefined and all natural.

Most modern salts such as iodized table salt are heavily processed and refined. This process often includes bleaching, chemicals, and high heat. As a result, the natural minerals are stripped from the salt and the structure of the salt is altered. These ultra-processed salts are not the best for our health.
Redmond Real Salt is a great alternative, as it's 100% natural and unrefined. As their website states, nothing is added and nothing is taken away. Not only is it healthier, it actually tastes better too!
Now for my comprehensive review of Redmond salt—including taste, texture, price, and other products the company offers.
Redmond Salt Review
I first discovered Redmond Real Salt about five years ago after ordering some Redmond electrolyes called "Relyte". They included some samples of their salt with my order. At the time, I had no idea where the salt came from or that it had any health benefits.
When I tried it, I was really surprised by how much better it tasted than the table salt I'd been using. It had a subtle sweet flavor and really enhanced the taste of everything I ate.
I've kept using Remond Real Salt ever since then! In fact, I love it so much that I often travel with it and keep little packets of it in my car.
When I started the carnivore diet years later, and I noticed that many people in the carnivore and keto community were raving about Redmond salt. It was only then that I learned about health benefits of unrefined sea salt even though I'd been using it for a long time already.
I continue to use Redmond salt everyday and have converted many of my family members and friends to using it! Once you try it, chances are you won't go back to using ultra-procossed table salt.
Should I buy the coarse, kosher, fine, or powder Redmond salt?
There are several different grain size options for Redmond Salt, including their coarse salt, kosher salt fine salt, and powder salt. Which salt is best to use depends on what you're making as well as your personal preference.
Here are some tips for each grain size:
Coarse salt
This is the biggest grain size and needs to go in a grinder (the pieces are too large to put straight onto food). This gives a bold, salty flavor!
Kosher salt
This is best for seasoning steaks and roasts. Some people prefer having a larger grain on other foods, too.
Fine salt
This is Redmond's most popular grain size. You can use this for regular table salt, baking, and more.
Popcorn (or powdered) salt
This salt is perfect for making homemade popcorn or beef jerky. Personally I love using it on my beef chips recipe. The salt adheres to the meat so well and really enhances the flavor. Some people like to use the powder salt for sauces, dips, or DIY beauty products.
As you can see, each grain size serves a different purpose! I use them all in my kitchen, except the coarse salt (but maybe I should give that a try).
How is Redmond Real Salt sourced?
Redmond salt is mined from an ancient seabed in central Utah. This salt deposit is naturally protected from pollutants, which is one of reasons Redmond salt is so unique. It's the only source of pink sea salt in the entire USA!
Redmond salt is completely pure and unprocessed—just as salt should be! It contains over 60 trace minerals and has a subtle sweet flavor.

How can I save money on Redmond Real Salt?
You'll save money by purchasing in bulk and can refill your shakers as needed! Personally, I bought the 25 pound bag and it's lasted for years. The salt also makes for great gifts and party favors!
There are many different sizes of Redmond Real Salt available, including small salt shakers, 16 ounce bags, 10 pound bags, and 25 pound bags.
Redmond has generously offered my community 15% off your order with the coupon code RIBEYERACH and this link.
Is Redmond Real Salt Iodized?
No it isn't. Here's an excerpt from their website:
"Redmond Real Salt is an ancient, unrefined sea salt, which means we don't add anything (including iodine) to the 60+ trace minerals nature gave our salt."
One serving of Redmond salt contains about 10% of the recommended daily allowance of iodine (this is for 1/4 teaspoon of salt). Depending on how much salt you take, you may need to get more iodine from real food sources or supplements.
Ulta-processed table salt contains synthetic iodine, which may not be absorbed well. It's always best to get your vitamins and minerals from non-synthetic sources such as real food. Read more about this here.
How does Redmond Salt compare to Celtic Sea Salt?
In terms of taste, I prefer Redmond salt. But Celtic salt is still a great salt option and there are people that prefer it. It's worth giving both a try to see what you like better.
In terms of sourcing and quality, here's an article sharing the differences between Redmond salt and other sea salts.
What do the Redmond smoked salts taste like?
Redmond has a varity of smoked salt flavors including hickory, cherry, and chef's blend. We love them all, but our favorite is the hickory salt. It has a very bold flavor and goes very nicely with steaks, burgers, chicken wings, potatos, eggs, etc.
The smoked salt is perfect for people who love a "smoky" flavor but don't want to go through the extra effort of smoking your food! Keep in mind, a little bit goes a long way!
Redmond Real Salt Seasonings
Redmond offers a variety of seasonings, all made with their salt and organic spices:
Lemon Pepper
Original Season Salt
Garlic Salt
Onion Salt
Wasatch Steak
Chili Lime
Taco
Red Rock BBQ
I've tried every seasoning Redmond offers (if you can't tell already, I'm a Redmond girl through and through). They're all great, but the ones we love the most are the Garlic Pepper, Garlic Salt, Taco Seasoning, and Smoked Salts.
What other products does Redmond offer?
Redmond has several other products, including Relyte electrolytes, bentonite clay, and toothpaste (called "earthpaste"). I use the Redmond Relyte electrolytes and love them. They have both unflavored and flavored options and they are refined sugar and artificial ingredient free.
I have some the bentonite clay, but haven't experimented with it much yet.
Their toothpaste which they call "earthpaste" or "earth powder" is not my favorite product. They ingredients are great, but it didn't leave my teeth feeling as clean as some of the other fluoride free options I've tried.
Does Redmond have stores and cafes in Utah?
Yes! Redmond has several grocery store and cafe locations in Utah, including Salt Lake City, Orem, Heber, and Springville.
I actually used to live just a few blocks from their Orem store, but had no idea it was there! Now every time we go to Utah to visit family, we always go to the Redmond cafe.
The Salt Lake City and Orem locations both have a farm to table cafe located inside the grocery store. Redmond actually has local farms in Utah, and they provide their farm fresh raw milk, pasture-raised meats, eggs, and produce in their store. Everything is seed oil and artificial ingredient free.
Their cafe has the most delicious grass-fed beef burgers! You can top them with raw cheese and there's no need to bring your own Redmond salt there. The cafe has all their salts and seasonings available to use. They also have french fries that are made with coconut oil. We tried the cheesy bacon fries and they were delicious!
If you ever go to Utah, be sure to give the Redmond cafe a try.
In Summary
Redmond Real Salt is definitely "worth the hype". Once you start using a higher quality salt like Redmonds it's tough to go back. Not only is it healthier for you, but it tastes so much better, too. They have lots of other great product options, too!
I have a special place in my heart for Redmond and their mission to provide people with real, nourishing food. They truly embrace the idea of using "food as medicine".
