Potato chips are usually considered to be "junk food", but why is that? Most modern potato chips are made with ultra-processed oils such as canola oil, vegetable oil, or soybean oil. These inflammatory seeds oils are very unhealthy for humans to consume!

When made with real, nourishing ingredients, potato chips are much better for your health.

Vandy Crisps is one of the very few brands that offers chips made with real fat. Their chips are made with these simple ingredients: potatoes (pesticide free), 100% grass-fed beef tallow, and sea salt. They also have some flavored options that have organic seasonings. It doesn't get any cleaner than that when it comes to convenience foods!

Here is my full review of Vandy Crisp potato chips—including taste, flavors, health benefits, price, discounts, and more.

What do Vandy Crisps taste like?

Vandy Crisps are perfectly savory and salty. They are thicker than the average potato chip and have such a satisfying "crunch". The beef tallow adds a really nice layer of richness to the flavor. I'd say they taste like french fries, but in potato form.

The great thing about using beef tallow is that not only does it make the chips taste better, but they're better for your health too. Eating healthier shouldn't involve sacrificing taste!

My family and I love Vandy Crisps and would recommend them to anyone that loves potato chips. Keep reading to see my thoughts on the different flavors they have available.

What makes beef tallow healthier than seed oils?

Beef tallow is a naturally occurring, nourishing fat. Grass-fed beef tallow is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory and support hormone and heart health. Ultra-processed seed oils such as canola oil have a very high omega 6:3 fatty acid ratio, which is unnatural and very inflammatory for humans to consume.

Potato chips aren't truly a "junk food" when they are made with real fat like beef tallow.

Are Vandy Crisps worth the price?

If they fit within your budget, then absolutely! Keep in mind, chips made with beef tallow are more filling than those made with seed oils, so you're much less likely to eat a whole bag in one sitting. Personally, I don't eat a lot of snacks like this and more look forward to eating them for "special occasions".

Vandy Crisps are expensive, there's no doubt about it. Not everyone can afford them and that's okay—they aren't necessary. Keep in mind, homemade meals made with nourishing ingredients are going to be better for you than anything that comes from a bag! But convenience food does have a place for many people, and it's great there are better options now.

Hopefully one day using tallow to make chips will be the "new norm" and prices will come down allowing more people to access them. Keep voting with your dollar if you can.

Does Vandy Crisps offer discounts on their chips?

Yes! Vandy Crisps has generously offered my community 25% off your order with the coupon code RACH and my affiliate link.

Are there different flavors of Vandy Crisps?

Yes! They have consistently been adding new flavors to their line of products, which is exciting! Right now, these are the flavors available: original, french onion, herbes de provence, and smokehouse BBQ.

Personally, my favorites are the original and french onion. I'm kind of a plain jane and love a simple potato chip! You can't go wrong with the original.

The french onion tastes very similar to sour cream and onion—the spices added are so tasty. I was very excited when these came out and would definitely recommend them.

I am not a fan of the smokehouse BBQ flavor, but have never liked BBQ potato chips, so I might not be the best judge here. I also wouldn't go for the herbes de provence—I found the seasoning too strong. But some of my family members really enjoy both of those flavors.

If you're not sure what flavor to get, you could consider one of their bundles so you can sample them before committing to a bigger order!

Are Vandy Crisps made by the same company as MASA Chips?

Yes, they are! The parent company of Vandy Crisps is called Ancient Crunch, which is also the maker of MASA chips—corn tortilla chips made with beef tallow. It seems their mission is to create a line of snack products made with real, nourishing ingredients. I'm grateful for companies that are making an effort to provide healthier snack options!

Are Vandy Crisps chips keto or carnivore diet friendly?

No, they are not. They are made with potatoes, which are high in carbohydrates. Unless they were eaten in very small quantities, they wouldn't fit in with a keto or low carb diet.

Personally, I do well with eating carbs like this in small to moderate quantities when paired with lots of animal protein to maintain blood sugar balance. Because Vandy Crisps are made with real fat, I find them to be very filling and I don't overeat them. One bag could easily last me a week or two.

In Summary

Vandy Crisps are a great "better for you" potato chip option for those that are trying to avoid or minimize seed oils. Yes, they are expensive, but if they're within your budget, then definitely give them a try!
